How to request feedback in The Copy Society
Whether you’ve done this before or this is a first time in a writing class, I hope you know how welcome you are here. A big part of growing within The Copy Society is submitting your writing for feedback. That’s a big part of why this isn’t just a course– we’re a community of business owners (and writers!) here to lift another up and get our copy done together.
Honestly, we cover a lot of ground in The Copy Society. The last thing we want you to feel is overwhelmed or like you have to hack it all on your own. So when you’ve completed a module, written a piece of copy, and feel ready to share, I want you to feel so ready to ask for feedback and get your messaging, copy, and content ready to share with the world.

Open up our group Slack channel.
On the left hand sidebar, click over to the channel called feedback.
Tag me (Kayla) with an @ sign and my name, and leave me a message with what deliverable you’re submitting, any specific questions you have, and, of course, your document in Google Docs format. Please make sure your document is either set to “Commenter” or “Editor” so that I may make comments directly on your document.
Within approximately 7 days, I will tag you with my response. You’ll see comments on your doc and a little note from me. If it makes sense, I may attach a brief Loom video sharing my thoughts and giving you constructive advice.
You are free to ask me follow up questions or get my eyes on something specific following this critique, but I do ask that you implement suggestions before doing so.

Before you head over to the Slack channel...
Know that 99.99% of the time (more like 110%!!), you will see lots of praise, love, and kind words of support alongside any constructive feedback so you will never feel slammed or torn down after a critique. In TCS, we love you. <3
That’s okay. I’m not your high school English teacher, and this isn’t school! Please feel free to put prepositions at the end of sentences, use slang, or drop F bombs if that is your vibe! We are NOT the grammar police and we want your writing to sound authentically you.
As your copywriting coach, I will provide direct, tangible feedback but I won’t shame, throw shade, or make you feel bad about your writing. That is NOT the vibe. This is an EMPOWERING, safe container, here to support you. If there’s something that can be improved, we can figure it out together!
Just so you know, my words of advice are just that– advice, and suggestions! If you feel at any point that you would prefer to do something your way, I welcome you to do so!
I’m a big believer in “You do you”, so if something feels better the way you originally phrased it, I don’t want you to feel tied in or restricted by my advice to you. I may be a copywriter, but you are the founder of your business, and you know your brand and audience best! Take a permission slip and be empowered to make the executive writing decisions that feel best for you and how you’d like to show up as a business owner.
That is the spirit of what The Copy Society is all about– helping you become your OWN copywriter, and that may mean accepting or refusing suggestions from me or your peers in the group. That is you taking ownership of your writing!
You may also decide to make changes even AFTER publishing your work based on reception from your audience or insights from your own reflection. Believe it or not, that is a GOOD thing that indicates positive growth in your business.
